A possible Dark Knight GTA-style video game?

    http://www.mobygames.com/news-item/nid,2230/

Rumour has been flying (pardon the pun) for over a year about a possible game based on the Dark Knight movie, but the passing of Heath Ledger silenced it. Lately however it appears that a title may still be in the works. It is supposed to be worked on by Electronic Arts and Pandemic, most notably responsible for the Mercenaries series and it is said to have a GTA-style design to it. EA originally thought the movie would not be successful enough for a game tie-in and they were obviously proven wrong. More info. It was even "confirmed" by none other than Gary Oldman, known as Commission Gordon from the movie. It was reported before July and was even posted on Youtube, but has since been removed by G4. More info. It's hard to say if this game will ever be released at this point in time as well as who will be doing the voices of the game or what characters will be playable. Only time will tell.

Dark Knight video game coming with the DVD? I doubt it

    http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/07/dark-knight...

The blogosphere is abuzz over the possibility that there will be a "Dark Knight" video game coming out soon, possibly with the DVD release. The evidence is this G4 clip, since pulled by the network from its website but captured in very low quality on GameTrailers, in which the host says the game is "rumored to be released later this year along with the DVD." They then have a brief interview clip with Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon in the movie) talking about how they game developers are trying to build a gliding mechanism. (video is embedded below or you can watch it here) I haven't been able to confirm anything in my reporting, but I'll go out on a limb here and say it's (virtually) impossible that a "Dark Knight" game is coming out with the DVD. Variety's home entertainment reporter tells me that the DVD will come out by December at the latest (to take advantage of holiday shopping, natch) and what do you think are the odds that a major publisher like Warner Bros. (the rights holder, with its own vidgame operation) or EA (which published the "Batman Begins" game in 2005) would have a AAA console game coming out in under five months that it hasn't yet announced? Given that Warner Bros. just started talking about "Watchmen," which is a downloadable game that comes out next March, and EA was showing off what they claimed to be their full lineup for the year at E3, I'd say it's extremely doubtful. Yes, Gary Oldman clearly had seen some kind of videogame tie-in being developed. It could be a game concept that never took off. It could be a "Batman" tie-in coming further down the road (since there will inevitably be a "Dark Knight" sequel given the mega-box office numbers). But a "Dark Knight" videogame coming with the DVD this year? I'd bet a lot against it at this point.

Watch as Oldman spills The Dark Knight game details

Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Action Like a Batarang, this story didn’t come back - it stuck. We’re talking about our original report on G4’s interview with actor Gary Oldman, in which he specifically speaks about an upcoming game based on the smash hit movie The Dark Knight. G4 had pulled the video, but, like a boomerang, it’s back. Oldman, who plays the role of Gotham City police lieutenant Jim Gordon in the film, reveals during the interview that he’s “seen a tiny little piece of [the game]” and that its developer (rumored to be the now EA-owned Pandemic) is focusing a lot of effort on realistic, seamless gliding sequences. Meanwhile, his interviewer looks more uncomfortable and confused than enthused about the fact that she’s sitting across from a film legend. Why so serious? Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Dark Knight Game: Pandemic Dev? Will It Suck?

    http://www.ripten.com/2008/07/23/dark-knight-game-pandemic-d...

I saw the Dark Knight movie a few days ago, and yes, everything you hear (and read) about it is true. It’s an amazing film, and Heath Ledger’s performance is one for the ages. However, as Harvey Dent (Two Face) would tell you himself, there is a flip side to everything, and the flip side here is that few movie based games ever amount to much. Having had several chats with developer friends of mine who have worked on these types of projects, it is easy to understand why they are often considered failures in the gaming circle — lack of time for proper production. The two are worked on in tandem for the most part, and there’s almost always a rush to get the game out before the movie. With the Dark Knight movie already in theaters, and no game in sight just yet, we may actually be in store for a “dynamic duo” deserving of the Batman brand. So how do we know that a movie based game is in the works? It was recently leaked by Gary Oldman, the actor who plays Commissioner Gordon in the film, that a game adaptation is well underway. In his interview with G4TV (shown below) Oldman states: The video game — I saw a tiny little piece of it. They’re trying to get it, so that when he’s gliding — that it’s a sort of — there’s a feeling in it that you’ve never really felt before. That the game doesn’t stop and start. They’re trying to build it in — to the system. Almost like watching the fim. That it’s a continuous thing. But, I mean I’m on the roof top. I mean my figure just stands there with the back light. I don’t do anything. I’m really boring. I go “Batman we got to get over there” you know? And he goes “woosh” and dives off the building. I’m Jim Gordon, boring Jim Gordon on the roof. Well now, “boring Jim Gordon” is not so boring if you put a beautiful dark haired female interviewer in front of him now is he? See for yourself, and read the notes from my call with Pandemic Studios after the jump. With the Dark Knight game now confirmed, many rumors began to circulate regarding which developer was in fact behind it. The consensus seems to point to Pandemic Studios, so I decided to put a call in to the guys (and girls) over at Pandemic to find out. In speaking with a member of their visual team (who I will not name), I knew that they would not be able to confirm or deny their role in a Dark Knight film, so instead I asked, if Pandemic were to be given the keys to a high profile film adaptation such as The Dark Knight, what strengths do you believe you would bring to the table to help make the game a success? The response I got was “Wow, that’s a loaded question! [laughter] I’m not sure I can answer that [laughter].” As our conversation continued, I politely pressed for a few specific characteristics that they felt defined the studio, and would make a Pandemic developed Dark Knight game worth buying for gamers and fans of the character/film. Generally speaking, they stated that their goal is to always deliver the “best quality possible”. They went on to list “ambitious nature”, “large scale worlds”, and “bringing fantasy to life” as just a few of their strengths — adding that they feel each of these attributes are exhibited in games such as Battle Front and most recently Mercenaries 2. I ended the call by saying that I truly hope Pandemic is behind the game, to which I was told “Hey, who knows [laughter].” Pandemic is a high quality studio, and if the rumor regarding their involvement in the Dark Knight ends up being true, we may all be in store for a gaming experience that Gotham itself would be proud of — my fingers are crossed.

Rumor: Oldman confirms Dark Knight game, G4 pulls video

Filed under: Culture, Business Far be it from us to tell Electronic Arts how to run its business, but one would think that announcing a long-since-leaked game based on a hugely anticipated movie which just so happened to premier the very same week of the industry’s largest press event would be - what we in the video game blogging business call - “a no-brainer.” But, then again, we’re not Electronic Arts so, despite being first rumored and then leaked by IGN over a year ago, Pandemic’s totally secret adaptation of The Dark Knight did not make its debut during the serendipitous collision of E3 and Batman-mania last week. As if EA’s counter-intuitive marketing plan wasn’t funny enough, an interview on G4 with Commissioner Gordon himself, Gary Oldman, revealed - surprise! - that a game was indeed in development. Oldman stopped short of naming developer Pandemic or EA, but we all know the score; in response, G4 had the video removed from YouTube as well as their own site. Our favorite part from the interview teaser reel? When Oldman says, “It’s hard to make a movie like this under the radar.” You know what, we were just thinking the same thing about games … Source - IGN forums Source - YouTube video (since pulled by g4 Media, Inc.)
