Looks like Tesla and Aptera finally have some competition… although it seems to trump them both… sorta. Fisker Automotive, plans on having this hybrid car available for sale in 2010. The car goes from 0-60 mph in about 5.8 seconds, can run on electric only mode for 50 miles before the gasoline engine/generator even turns on.

In the latest move to expand the range of hybrid electric cars available to US consumers, Finnish car manufacturer Valmet Automotive announced a deal to build a new plug-in hybrid sports car at its factory near Helsinki. A preliminary deal has been struck with US-based Fisker Automotive Inc.

Europe’s Car of the Year, the Fiat 500 has obtained an all-electric powertrain thanks to the chaps over at the UK based company Nice that specializes on electric vehicles. Produced to order in Italy by Micro-Vett, the first all-electric 500 will be produced in a limited number of units.

It may still be squabbling with Tesla over some allegedly stolen secrets, but it looks like Fisker is still moving full steam ahead with its Fisker Karma Plug-In Hybrid, with Valmet Automotive now announcing its intention to manufacturer the car en masse in Finland.

The Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports sedan, which is planned for late 2009 and should have an all-electric range of about 50 miles on lithium-ion batteries, will be made in Finland by Valmet Automotive: “The first cars will be delivered in the 4th quarter of 2009 in North America with planned delivery to Europe in 2010.

Valmet Automotive is a brand-independent, specialty car manufacturer in Finland. They manufacture some cars for Porsche, i.e. the Cayman and Boxster. So keep these guys in mind if you want to start your own electric car company. Fisker and Valmet plan to churn out 15,000 cars annually with the first cars to be delivered at the end of 2009.

While people who drive out of necessity are understandably upset about high gas prices, the real enthusiast driver recognizes the positives. Artificially low fuel prices have subsidized an American automotive lifestyle out-of-sync with the needs and desires of serious drivers.

Fisker Automotive announced that Valmet, Finland auto manufacturer, will build the model Karma Saloon hybrid, informs Motor Authority. Known for the manufacture of high quality cars such as Porsche Boxster or Cayman and with an experience of over 40 years in the field, Valmet will ensure that the new Karma to meet the necessary requirement in the luxury class.
