"Bad on Purpose": the NYT's Divergent Views on James Frey [Books]
http://gawker.com/ tag/ books/ ?i=397974&t=bad-on-purpose-the-nyts-divergent…The first review that the New York Times wrote of fabricating memoirist James Frey's new novel, Bright Shiny Morning, was gushy to the point that it was written in the style of his novel. (It ran in the Arts section and was written by Janet Maslin.) But the NYT's Book Review takes it on this week—this time, the results are the literary equivalent of dropping a piano on an author's head.

Scathing Book Review
http://incertus.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 07/ scathing-book-review.htmlParticularly brutal reviews are an art form in themselves, and this review of James Frey's new book is a delightful contemporary example. The book Frey wrote is no doubt shit, but this review is not to be missed. I only wish we'd see more of this in book reviewing.

How to start an interview on the wrong foot
http://shouldersofgiantmidgets.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 06/ how-to-start-interview-on…Note to self: self, if you're ever in the position of talking to Powell's Bookstore about your new book, do not start the interview by saying something so utterly stupid that it becomes impossible for anyone to take anything you say seriously (even if you manage to say something that isn't banal).

He lied to Oprah, fabricated his way into America’s homes and hands, lost the trust of his publisher, and turned it all around into another book deal that produced a fiction manuscript critics actually like.

A Million People...
http://brandontoddwright.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 06/ million-people.htmlI just finished reading James Frey's A Million Little Pieces. I'm not sure if you remember this book, but it stirred up quite a bit of controversy back in its day. The book sailed to the top of all sorts of bestseller lists and nabbed a coveted spot in Oprah's Book Club.
